Nick Gill is relishing the chance to play far away from the pressure cooker environment of the AFL, but don’t think he is taking anything for granted at his new home. The former Adelaide Crow, who played 16 games between 2007 and 2009, should provide an ominous target in the Saints forward line, but he knows he has to get fit first.
“That first training session was a bit of an eye opener,” he said. “I am horrendously unfit.”
Now plying his trade as a breakfast radio larrikin, the 29-year-old was hunted by almost every club. But he settled with Saints on recommendation from former Adelaide University teammate Dan Mulvihill, who will return to Saints this season.
“It was just easy after Dan mentioned Saints,” Gill said. “And even before I came up here when I mentioned AFL Cairns people would say Saints were a good club. It’s going to b a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to a new challenge.”
