Cairns AFL duo Tom Michael and James Farley-Smith are representing Queensland at the U16 national titles in Sydney this week. The pair, both Hawks juniors and Gold Coast Suns Academy members earned their positions through strong perfomances at the U16 Queensland State Championships in May with the Kookaburra team, as well as their efforts in recent trial games. Farley-Smith a key position player, who can go forward or back, is no stranger to the national stage after he got a taste of the level last year at the U15 schoolboy national titles. Michael, also a key position player who can play ruck and forward, will be experiencing his first taste of national level football but will no doubt be taking in some advice from his older brother Sam, who was added to the Brisbane Lions rookie list earlier this year. Former Cutters and now Tigers junior, Mitch Koch, who also had a very strong state championships, was named as an emergency, and will have to wait for injury to get his opportunity.
