ONE of the Suns' most passionate fans could be seeing a lot more of his hero Gary Ablett if the club follows through on coach Guy McKenna's wish next year.
ho wants to paint his bedroom walls red and yellow, was speechless when Ablett autographed his little guernsey yesterday at a fan day.
The chance to meet the team was part of the build-up to today’s AFL premiership game against Richmond at Cazalys.
Today’s clash will be the second of three that the Tigers have traded away from the MCG.
Yesterday, McKenna said the Suns would definitely be interested in taking over the contract if Richmond were not going to extend it after 2013.
"Depending on what they want to do, we’d certainly be keen to pick it up," he said.
McKenna applauded the Tigers for setting the platform in the Far North and said the Suns would be foolish not to continue to exploit that.
"It’s a great initiative by Richmond, I know they get howled down about it, but to bring AFL football to this region is just fantastic," he said.
The coach said moving the clash north benefited them on and off the field.
"It’s in our own backyard. If we had a choice between Cairns and the MCG, with the Richmond faithful, we’re probably five goals better off up here,’’ McKenna said,
