When Dwayne Bosen pins his ears back, you had better hope it isn't you with the Sherrin. The North Cairns Tigers' onballer barely misses his target once he has made up his mind. It is not as if he is 100kg, legs like tree trunks and built like a brick you-know-what. Bosen, 26, is lean - just 70kg of muscle. He moves so fast, is so explosive and has an innate ability to sense the correct time to strike. "To put that big hit on, it comes naturally," he said. "You have to judge a few things and sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn't. I guess it's all about finding a rhythm for it." The AFL Cape York development officer is aware of the caution his opponents take, but does not think anyone is actually scared of him. "No, it isn't like that. But I think people know what I can do and it makes me pretty confident going out there," he said. "It feels pretty good." Bosen's power and explosiveness, combined with his endurance ability to run out a game of AFL, is what sees the Tigers talent fit in at No.11 in Cairns Fittest 15. A naturally-gifted athlete, Bosen stays in tune by playing the sport he loves. In the off-season he can be found, relunctantly, in the gym trying to "beef up" for the new season. "I want to put a bit of weight on, maybe 20 or 30kg," he joked - or at least we think he was joking. "I definetly want to get a bit heavier than my playing weight last season." In a good advertisement for the fitness opportunituies that are easily available in the Far North, Bosen runs the Red Arrow weekly, does laps of the Esplanade and competes in local touch football and AFL 9s competition. And what he does on and off the field is not just for his benefit. Through AFL Cape York, Bosen spends substantial time on the roap touring Cape York communities promoting a healthy lifestyle. "It's AFL-based, so it's a dream job and hopefully some kids see me as a role model."
