North Cairns Tigers have shown why they remain at the top of the AFL Cairns Women's League, after completing an 83 point demolition of Centrals Trinty Beach on Saturday. The Bulldogs were kept scoreless the entire game, with not even the wet conditions working in their favour, a usual strength for the undermanned side. "Our game plan was to get numbers to the ball, but I don't think we did that, especially in the first two quarters," Centrals backline defender and club president Jacqui Rowlands said. "If we smarten up our backline like we did in the fourth quarter then we've got a chance the next time we go up against them." Tigers player-coach Jo Butland said she was impressed with how her side played, labelling it one of their best games of the season. "The girls were pretty keen to atone for a bit of a slack match the week before (against the South Cairns Cutters)," Butland said. "We really worked hard to get to the footy first, and our support play was probably the best that we've had all year. We just pulled it all together." The veteran forward nominated prolific goal scorer Maddison Peeters as one of the side's stand-out players, alongside Tarin Moke. Peeters bagged six goals alone to help North Cairns cruise home to an eventual 13.5 (83) victory. "She certainly led from the front and had the radar straight through the middle, so she certainly set the platform," Butland said. "Tarin worked hard across half forward, across half back and through the middle, she played a couple of different positions and just consistently won the football." Earlier that day, the Cutters 2.3 (15) failed to come up with the goods against the Manunda Hawks 9.9 (63), going down by 48 points. South Cairns remain winless so far this season, and will face Centrals at Cazalys Stadium this Friday at 7.30pm. Meanwhile, the second-placed Hawks will go up against a confident North Cairns in the earlier clash at 6.00pm.
