Any thoughts North Cairns Tigers might drop off in the finals were obliterated in Saturday's 14.5 (89) to 0.0 (0) destruction of Manunda in the AFL Cairns Women's League semifinal.
Hawks coach Fiona Sharp admitted that it would be difficult to bounce back in time for this weekend's grand final qualifier against Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs. "Not scoring, it just takes it out of you," she said. "It's going to be hard for the girls to get up." Sharp described the North Cairns team, which went through the regular season undefeated, as "unstoppable" at Fretwell Park on Saturday.
"They just went to another level," she said. "And they aren't going to drop off. "They are a well-drilled team, they've got a game plan and they just stick to it." The win put the Tigers straight into the grand final, while Manunda will have to face Centrals Trinity Beach in next week's decider.
The Bulldogs will go into the game full of confidence after a 8.7 (55) to 1.2 (8) win over the winless South Cairns Cutters in the elimination final. "This time last year they beat us in the same fixture," Sharp said. "We should have been in the grand final. "But they got through. "Hopefully that doesn't happen again this year."
