Memories of last year's painful one-point loss powered Manunda Hawks to a grand final-qualifying win over Centrals Trinity Beach on Saturday.
President Fiona Sharp said her side was desperate to erase the feeling of last year's defeat to Centrals Trinity Beach during Saturday's rematch at Holloway's Beach Sporting Complex. "They remembered that feeling and there was no way they were going to feel it again," she said.
"They just wanted it more. They wanted the ball more, they fought harder." Bulldogs forward Peggy Lane agreed, saying her side was "outplayed and out coached" in the 5.4 (34) to 2.2 (14) loss. "They just had a different look in their eyes, you could tell they were really up for this one," she said. Lane praised her side's effort in 2013. In women's footy it's more about getting numbers to training and getting a full list every week," she said.
"We are a growing league and each year we are teaching juniors and new players in the game. "We would have loved to have made the grannie but I think overall the season was a success." Sharp said her team would go into Saturday's grand final against North Cairns Tigers without any pressure to burden them.
The Tigers have been undefeated the last two seasons and everyone expected them to win. When the two teams met in the semi-final round, the Tigers held the Hawks scoreless. Anything less than a grand final win would be met with disappointment by Jo Butland's team. "We don't have any of the pressure on us, it's all on them, Sharp said.
