Cairns City Lions' captain-in waiting Tom Nichols will have to do just that after a finger tendon injury put him on the sidelines for at least two months of the season.
The North Hobart recruit required surgery after cutting his finger in an accident at work and had to front up for the captains'call with his left arm in a cast last weekend. Lions coach Jason Roe said Nichols' absence had dampened the good spirits at the club heading into tomorrow's first round clash with North Tigers.
"If we had our full deck on hand I'd be pumped, but we've still got a handful of others to come back, as well as Tom being out for maybe 10 weeks," he said. "Having said that, we have heaps of new players. Some of those had chosen our club over others Cairns clubs so we are certainly making our mark in terms of that." The line-up is clearer in the Tigers' camp, with Kane Richter expected to play and captain despite back troubles keeping him out of the Pre-season Cup.
