A series of close losses have been a bitter pill to swallow for South Cairns young gun Damien Dewis, but he insists the team has not lost its drive as a result.
Dewis spent last year playing in the NEAFL with fellow Cutter Conor Napiorkowski.
He has felt the frustration of dropping to sixth on the ladder after a bright start had them in second, third and fourth at various stages.
"We've lost a few games by a goal or less and last weekend we kicked 19 behinds," Dewis said. "It sucks and you think blokes would be shying away from training hard. But...... training has been really up and about all season and the boys are keen."
Playing well for the entire contest is what they are striving for, with fade-outs responsible for the string of losses that now dates back to round four on April 20.
They face the first-placed North Cairns tomorrow at home, and a four-quarter effort is all Dewis and his team will ask for.
"They're a good side but anything can happen; no team is unbeatable. We just want to play consistently."
