Centrals Trinity Beach football manager Daryl O'Reilly has backed coach Peter Seymour as the club's future mentor following another tight loss on the weekend.
The Bulldogs sit sixth with four wins and ten losses after the 12.14(86) to 9.20(74) loss to South Cairns.
The result meant Souths crept ahead of Manunda into fourth spot after Hawks stumbled against Cairns City Lions.
Centrals held a 10-point lead at the final break, but kicked six behinds and no majors as the Cutters swept past them.
Cutter Sam Fary finished with four goals.
Despite the loss, and the poor accuracy in front of goal, O'Reilly said he was happy with the work Seymour has done this year.
"Very much so, he's here for the long haul," O'Reilly said.
"We picked him out of about eight applicants for this experience because we had a young, undeveloped side."
Seymour and Port's Brad Cooper are the only coaches who don't play as well.
"I think that's a good thing," O"Reilly said.
"Our young side needs that maturity in a coach and Peter is very experienced."
More than 50 past players returned to Crathern Park to celebrate the 20th and 40th anniversary of premierships, with 1973 stalwart Ross Bowden presenting them with special miniature Bulldogs jumpers.
