The responsibility of football never stops for Port Douglas Crocs president and recently announced AFL Cairns life member Andy Smith, who will be back into recruitment mode next week.
Smith, who helped establish the Crocs 25 years ago, was awarded the honour on Monday night and didn't miss his chance to have a dig at a few friends and rivals.
And he'll soak up the atmosphere at tomorrow's reserve grade grand final when his club hunts for a flag against North Cairns.
But after that it will be back to the drawing board, the president aware that about half his senior side won't be back next year.
Whether it's the juniors moving away for university or more senior heads leaving to pursue work, it's the same old story at Port most years.
"We'll start recruiting again now, chat to these guys before they all leave town," he said.
"It was tough this year with the amount of guys we had coming and going, but we had some big improvements in the club.
"It was just a shame (the seniors) finished like they did, Smith said.
They were trounced by North Cairns in a loss compounded by the injury to Ben Saunders, who will require a full knee reconstruction and 12 months away from footy.
"It wasn't a true reflection of our season and we played some pretty average footy in the end," he said.
"We thought, where we were at, we could match Saints and Norths were a bit of an unknown.
But as it was we never got to Saints."
Smith said the life membership was a nice touch after more than two decades in the league.
"A majority of the time it's a lot of fun, he said.
"The footy, the people at the club and around the league. I've been here 25, so one or two more won't hurt."
