They are a proven force in the junior ranks and now Pyramid Power want to conquer the AFL Cairns senior competition.
The growing Gordonvale club is expected to make its foray into senior football with a team in the new-look AFL Cairns Women's League, which has been moved to the winter season.
President Brett Kennerley hoped the move would become the first step in a full-time move to the top ranks of local AFL.
"From what we've heard all the clubs are keen to see us in the women's competition," he said.
"It gives the competition another team and another avenue for players and it means that there would be a bye once a month.
"For us, it gives our players a natural pathway into senior football.
"We were one of the clubs really pushing for the under-16s women's competition, and we're the only club that's had a team in there every year.
"This is an opportunity to see how we go in senior football and let everyone know that we can handle it.
"We've been able to do everything we've tried so far, so why not try this?"
Kennerley expected the team to be mainly comprised of newcomers.
"We don't want to be depleting the other teams; we're going to have a lot of new players who are coming from league or hockey, or other sports entirely," he said.
AFL Cairns Women's League president Fiona Sharp said Power's interest was made possible by the league moving to a winter season.
Cairns has traditionally held its women's competition in summer to accommodate the rugby league season.
Sharp has long been an advocate of brining women in line with the rest of the AFL competitions.
"It means that we're playing on the same days as the rest of our clubmates, so it just makes sense," she said.
AFL Cairns football operations co-ordinator Sean Hunter said the four current women's teams would be playing an eight-week Pre-Christmas competition.
"It's mainly because we didn't want them to be away from the sport for so long,' he said. "Their season ended last March, so this is an opportunity for them to stay involved in the sport and prepare for the winter season." ****In the first weekend of the Pre-Christmas Competition powerhouse Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs defeated South Cairns Cutters 15.7 (97) to 0.2(2) while North Cairns Tigers beat Manunda Hawks 11.7(73) to 2.1(13)
