Centrals Trinity Beach were the first Cairns team to hit the paddock in the preseason, facing as much of a challenge from the elements as Townsville's Hermit Park on Saturday.
The rain pelted down for a majority of the contest, in which Peter Seymour ran his senior side for most of the first half before giving the rest of the squad some minutes.
The score irrelevant, he rated their efforts highly in the first hit out.
"It was pretty wet, but I'm happy with how the boys went," he said.
Former Cairns City Lions coach Jason Roe has joined Seymour as assistant coach this season, while more recruits will arrive for Centrals before the season begins on March 28.
They play Gold Coast's Palm Beach at Cazalys next Saturday night after the North Queensland Masters Championships, while Cairns City Lions are scheduled to meet visiting Lamana Dockers (PNG) at Holloways Beach and South Cairns host Townsville's Curra Swans at Fretwell Park.
