Souths celebrated a rare win in Port Douglas on Saturday night, in a game Crocs president Andy Smith rated as one of the most physical he had seen in 25 years.
Smith made the call post game after watching his new look team fall in a boggy, bruising battle at Port Douglas Sporting Complex under lights 12.15(87) to 8.10(58).
Souths captain Dan Lock agreed with Smith, saying most teams would be nursing some sore bodies today.
"There were plenty of contests and plenty of collisions," Lock said.
Croc Adam Boone took a contender for mark of the year in the forward pocket.
However, it was not a day for any fancy footwork or cute tactics.
"It was all about who wanted the ball more and that lead we had was probably the biggest of the game," Lock said.
