THE South Cairns Cutters may be adorned in a “buttery hue” this weekend but the side won’t be playing “yellow” when it takes the field against Manunda at Fretwell Park.
The side are wearing the “canary yellow” guernsey as part of an annual charity event to raise funds for “Give Me 5 For Kids”.
Cutters president Lance Dixon said the club wore distinctive guernseys to honour former player Kris Seivers, who passed away during a match against Manunda 11 years ago.
“We’ve always had a commemorative game and four years ago we decided to use the commemorative game to raise money for charities.”
Beyond Blue and Breast Cancer awareness are among the charities to benefit.
Dixon said this year the club expects to have raised over $10,000 over the four year period.
The Cutters are mixing it up this year having chosen a mostly yellow strip, which can be added to the all blue and pink outfits it has worn in recent seasons.
Fans can bid for the unique guernseys after the game at a special auction with all proceeds going to “Give Me 5 For Kids”.
Far from shying away from the new couture, Dixon said the players relish the opportunity to don the new strip.
“It’s a very emotional game and a lot of guys only come out to that game for the year,” he said.
“We rely on the community and sponsors, so this is our way to give something back to the community and to charity.”
As joint ladder leaders, the Cutters will be out to achieve more than a fashion statement when they face a Hawks side which has found its mojo in recent weeks.
