A second half turn around has gifted North Cairns a dominant 132-71 victory against Centrals Trinity Beach at Crathern Park on Saturday.
On a roll after jumping into the top four after last week's win against Cairns City, the Tigers were hot favourites to take the win against the lowly Bulldogs. But there was little joy for the visitors in the first half, the Bulldogs putting in a determined display led by forward Aaron Spicer (four goals).
"To their credit, they stuck really well with us until half-time, but our guys came out really well in the third quarter," Tigers coach Dave Arnfield said.
"I think that's what blew it apart."
North Cairns full forward Adam Mueller was in fine form, slotting home five goals while on-baller Dwayne Bosen, able to stay in Cairns instead of heading north for work, chipped in with another four.
"Mueller's good in the air, he's very good for his size on the ground, he's very strong and a focal point for us," Arnfield said.
"Overall, we were pretty hard at the ball and we used it pretty well, so I was very impressed with the way we played."
Bulldogs coach Peter seymour said he was satisfied with his side's performance despite the loss.
"We butchered the footy a lot in that first half, but so did they," Seymour said.
"It's just a matter of who's got the most experienced players to use the footy better in pressure situations that wins.
"And that's where we were let down a bit on Saturday."
Seymour said his side suffered without linchpin Bulldogs Clint Guy who was away due to work commitments.
"When he doesn't play, we lose a lot of drive out of the centre," Seymour said.
