AFL Cairns President, Gary Young said, ”The BOM forecast is for Cyclone Nathan to continue to move northward removing Cairns from the Watch Zone. Whilst it may be a little windy with some rain the conditions will be safe for our matches to proceed.”
“The players, coaches and club members are keen to get the season under way and now that it is considered safe to do so, we’ll get started.”
Colts will play as scheduled on Friday night, the senior XXXX Gold Pre-season Cup will commence at Cazalys on Saturday from 1pm and the junior competition will play on Sunday as per the fixture.
Mr Young said, ”We will always keep a proviso up our sleeve. If the weather warnings change and an inherent danger again presents itself we may reconsider what games, if any, are played. The well-being of our AFL community is always our foremost consideration. It’s important that our people look after their own personal safety and property protection first.”
