Cairns will once again play host to elite level football with an NAB Challenge match to be played at Cazalys Stadium on Friday 6th March 2009 under lights.
AFL Chief Operating Officer Gillon McLachlan announced, “The AFL was finalising its schedule of venues for matches in the 2009 NAB Challenge with an emphasis on regional locations that don't normally host elite AFL football. The AFL will program NAB Challenge matches across Australia, as part of our on-going work to expand our game.”
The early season ‘NAB Challenge’ games are a serious pre-season ‘hit out’ with each Club experimenting with their playing group looking for the edge that will assist their season. “These are the best footballers in the country with their talent on show for us to admire and our juniors to aspire to,” said Gary Young, Director of AFL Cairns. “As a Round 2 match we won’t know who will be playing until the week before but it is great to be able to once again showcase elite football to the Cairns sports-loving community,” he added.
Ticket pricing and sales information, along with corporate packages, will be announced shortly.
