Manunda Hawks player-coach Gabby Weetra might consider shooting practice for his team at training this week after his players reaped the consequence of inaccuracy against Centrals Trinity Beach at Cazalys on Saturday.
Under-manned against arguably the form side of the AFL Cairns, the Hawks could ill-afford to be as wasteful as they were inside the forward 50m, losing 20.9 (129) to 8.16 (64).
While conditions were blustery, the Hawks were guilty of missing simple kicks with the Bulldogs’ first-quarter lead of 8.1 to 1.7 testament to the obvious value of splitting the big pair of goal posts.
But the Bulldogs’ superiority was not all down to Hawks’ kicking woes. This season, Bulldogs coach Mick Seymour has assembled a tight-knit and well-drilled team capable of attacking and defending with equal measures of lethalness.
Jesse Fewkes was again among the Bulldogs’ best on Saturday. The mop-haired defender/midfielder has been a star since returning from the QAFL this season with his choice of disposal rarely at fault during the game.
