The proud 55-year history of AFL Cairns club North Cairns is under threat with a lack of volunteers jeopardising the future of the Tigers beyond this season.
An extraordinary general meeting has been called for Monday at the club’s Watsons Oval headquarters to discuss the Tigers’ viability.
Tigers president Brett Potter said if new people were not recruited then the club would not survive in its current form.
"We need more people for the committee, game-day stuff, everything because at the moment there is just not enough," he said.
"Ideally we need 10 more people for the committee and another 10 to back them up.
"The scary thing is that no one has been groomed to take over committee positions if someone stands down because there is simply no one there.
"It’s very disappointing it’s got to this. Nothing is going to happen this year but if nothing changes there are two or three options we might have to pursue that I don’t want to elaborate on just yet."
Potter, who has served on the Tigers’ committee for 11 years and is in his second term as president, said the club’s problem was not financial.
"We’re not making money hand-over-fist or anything but we’re bobbing along all right," he said.
"We could keep going along like this for a few years yet but we need to grow.
"It’s a good family club and we’ve got great juniors. Over the next five years I can’t see us having to import too many players because we’ll have our own kids bleeding through the system.
"We’ve got great facilities as well. There’s not another club like it in Cairns."
