Under 16 Boys Round 4
Geelong Cats 36 lost to Dandenong 67
Top Scorers: B. Mayes 12, G. Blagojevic 9, A. Motiani 8
Coach’s Comment: “Playing at home against one of the top teams in the state was always going to be a challenge and with one of our talls injured this would stretch us at times. In the first quarter the boys hung on and made it a close game but the signs by half time were not good (half time Geelong 23 – Dandenong 36). For the remainder of this game the boys were frustrated as their opponents could hardly miss a shot and the margin blew out to a 67 – 32 loss as Dandenong found too many scoring options while ours dried up.”
Under 12 Girls Round 4
Geelong Cats 39 defeated Hawthorn 38
Top Scorers: A. Garcia 8, O. Purcell 7, Q. Murphy 5, Z. McKeegan 5
Coach’s Comment: “This was a game from which we came away with a win, but due to factors beyond our control, should have been in a better position throughout the match in controlling the game.”

Geelong Cats 36 lost to Ringwood 53

Coach’s Comment: “Coming back to play after a couple of weeks off, was certainly that – we looked like we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks. Altona had beaten us twice before during the year, but for some reason we always thought that we could beat them. Unfortunately for this week, it was just a real case of our shots not dropping and theirs were. We started like a house on fire, getting out to a lead in the first quarter, but instead of a non-existent third quarter like we usually have, it was the non-existent second quarter, a 17 – 2 quarter, that cost us any chance of the game. Jess Christiaans started to regain some touch and kept the scoreboard ticking over, while Sarah Welfare again played tough basketball.”

Geelong Cats 46 def. Werribee 40
Top Scorers: H. Marshall 19, C. Wilkinson 10, L. Hill 6
Coach’s Comment: “We burst out of the blocks to claim a strong half time lead, holding Werribee to just nine first-half points. After half-time our ability to contain the drive fell away and Werribee made a contest of what could have been a comfortable win. No standout performances, but solid contributions from all 10 players once again was pleasing.”

Top Scorers: J. Buaya 11, T. Read 7, D. Watson 6
Coach’s Comment: “This was a good team effort concentrating on quick transition at both ends of the court that caught Dandenong off guard and produced easy baskets to get the job done.”

Under 18 Boys Round 14
Geelong Cats (2) 44 def. Sandringham (4) 41
Top Scorers: N. Lemke 15, D. Duggan 11, Z. Moore 7
Coach’s Comment: “A reminder that nothing comes easy in this game, though proof again of our teams 'never say die' attitude. Although we made several bad passes and
slacked off on the rebounding, our determination saw us hold off the
opposition’s final challenge. With a high foul count on both sides we were
able to make some points from the line and scrape through with the clock on
our side.”

North One
Under 14 Boys Round 14
Geelong Cats (2) 27 def. Altona (3) 22
Top Scorers: A. Stone 10
Coach’s Comment: Unfortunately this was one of our more inconsistent games. We tended to overhandle the ball against Altona's zone (don't get me started on a zone in U14s!) and we also struggled to make direct passes away from the defense. But there were a couple of positives to take out of the game. Our defensive pressure was one of them, restricting Altona to just 22 for the game and causing a significant number of turnovers. The other was when we got the ball through hands we created a lot of easy, uncontested scoring opportunities.
Under 12 Girls Round 14
Geelong Cats 23 def. Collingwood (2) 21
Top Scorers: N. Burrell 9
Coach’s Comment: “A well-played defensive game, keeping our unbeaten season alive.”
