Basketball Geelong Summer Championship Wrap (Round 1)
Rovers marked its return to Basketball Geelong division one action with an upset 49-47 win over winter runners-up YMCA on Tuesday night.
Ballarat star Brett Goodgame top scored with 14 points, while another recruit, Andrew Olechnowicz finished with 9.
Jordan Hill top scored with 19 points for Y.
Jason Reardon’s return to Lara for the summer has already paid dividends, with the Giants defeating Try Boys Bears 69-61, and the Supercats’ MVP top scoring with 19.
Patrick Phillips finished with 15 for the Bears.
Vytis managed to hold off Pivot City for a 49-47 victory, despite Stefan Osborne’s 24 points for the Pivotonians.
The Knight’s led by 12 at half-time, however Osborne nearly snatched victory for Pivot with an 18 point second half.
Chris Daniele’s 20 points guided Try Boys to a comfortable 68-40 win over Dolphins, while reigning champions Christian College got over the top of Sharks 44-34, thanks to a 27-10 first half.
In the women’s competition, Pivot City welcomed back Kelsey Browne (14 points) and scored a 47-45 win over reigning winter champions Rovers.
Sherrie Noonan top scored with 14 points for Rovers, who were missing key trip Prue Kenny, Bree Cail and Lana Ryder.
Vicki Mallon’s 14 points paced YMCA in its comfortable 51-30 victory over Sharks.
Rovers Hawks had the better of YMCA Cougars 57-39, thanks to 19 points from star junior Ellie Stevens.
