Pivot City’s Under 12 boy’s team has returned from Bendigo triumphant after clean sweeping the Victorian Country Basketball Club Championships over the weekend.

The boys were undefeated over the two days and recorded five wins, including a comprehensive 56-14 victory in the Grand Final against Bendigo Strathfieldsaye. Jordan O’Leary led from the front with a game-high 18 points.

Coach Tim O’Leary was delighted with his team’s effort over the weekend.

“It was clearly outstanding from our boys, everyone was ecstatic, it’s a great achievement.”

He also paid tribute to where they had come from, to now being the best Country Basketball team in Victoria.

“Four years ago we couldn’t win a game, that’s why it’s been great.

“Most of these kids have been with me since they were around 7-8 years old and four years down the track it has been a long journey, bit it has been a successful journey.

“They are a great bunch of kids and have so much fun, they are all stars,” he said.

An average winning margin of over 45 points from the five games saw them crowned champions against 13 of Victoria’s best junior teams of the same age.

O’Leary also acknowledged what his boys had achieved, playing against some of the states finest young talent and being able to dominate like they did.

“It’s the most prestigious club tournament in country Victoria and to come away with a win by that amount is a testament to the boys and their love for the game,” he said.

Among the 120 teams that competed in Bendigo, Geelong was also well represented by other sides. Pivot City Girls and Christian College Boys in the Under 14’s and the Under 19 Try Boys Men all unfortunately went down in their Grand Finals.
