Candice Rogers returns to Lady Cats

The Geelong Lady Cats have added another major recruit for the 2010 Big V season by signing versatile frontcourt player Candice Rogers.

A Big V All-Star, Rogers spent last season with the Bulleen Boomers, but has returned to the Lady Cats in a bid to help lead them to the playoffs.

Comfortable playing as a forward or a centre, Rogers will provide the inside scoring presence that the Lady Cats need to become consistent winners.

It was that presence with 12.8 ppg and 11.4 rebounds that helped Bulleen make the semi-finals last season, so Geelong is banking on Rogers to repeat or improve those numbers.

``The one common denominator for last season’s playoff teams was that they all had players who could score,’’ Lady Cats coach Grantley Bernard said.

``Candice can give us the scoring we need and will provide a nice inside-outside scoring tandem with Kylie Morrissy, Jae Conn and our other perimeter players.’’

Playing in the Basketball Geelong domestic competition with YMCA, Rogers is excited to be returning to the Lady Cats with one aim in mind.

``We want to make the playoffs,’’ Rogers said. ``I wanted to come back to Geelong and be on a winning team and that’s what we are aiming to do. I’m really excited about the season ahead and looking forward to it.’’

Aside from Rogers and Morrissy, the Lady Cats also have commitments from Jae Conn, Vicki Mallon and several other players, while negotiations are continuing with four potential signings.

Centre Sarah De Grandi is working hard to overcome a foot problem, but the coaching staff has fingers crossed she will be fine to start on-court training in January.
