Basketball Geelong Summer Championship Wrap (Round 10)
Pivot City has gone within a whisker of upsetting Try Boys in Round 10 Basketball Geelong Summer Championship action on Tuesday night.
Despite leading at three-quarter time, the Pivotonians had to settle for a 48-all draw.
Stefan Osborne almost single-handedly dragged Pivot over the line with 29 points, while youngster Lachie Edwards finished with 15 for Try Boys, who were without veteran Paul Hutchison.
Sharks handed Vytis its second straight loss with a 65-55 win, thanks to Emerson Varley’s impressive 19 points.
Romas Liebich and Michael Rebula both had 16 for the Knights.
Former Supercats Jordan Hill and Kris Van Parreren both had 26 points in YMCA’s 78-36 demolition of a winless Dolphins.
Michael Lesic continued his solid form with 14 points for the losers.
Christian College maintained top spot with an impressive 63-43 win over a Lara combination missing Jason Reardon.
The Eagles blew the game open with a 19-2 first quarter, but despite being outscored in the next two terms were never threatened, as four players scored in double figures.
Matt Deppeler and Lucas Kenny both had 20 points in Rovers 73-58 win over Tigers.
Simon Evans had 14 for Tigers.
In the women’s competition, Rovers Hawks caused a massive upset of clubmates Rovers 72-42.
The Hawks ended the game as a contest with a 31-16 first quarter against an undermanned Rovers squad.
Lauren Bellegante the star with 20 points for the Hawks.
Rovers’ loss allowed YMCA to return to the top of the table after surviving a scare from the youthful Pivot City combination, before coming out on top 43-40.
Maddy Boyd did all she could for the Pivotonians, scoring 15 points, but they couldn’t cope with the one-two punch of Lady Cats signing Candice Rogers (16 points) and co-captain Vicki Mallon (13).
Try Boys proved too strong for Sharks with a comfortable 54-30 win, with both Anisa Sijersic and Tash Daffy finishing with 14 points.
Kelly Snell had 10 points for Sharks.
