Championship Women (1st 10-2): vs. Eltham (8th 1-9) @ The Arena Showcourt, Saturday 5.30pm

Coach Grantley Bernard has set the target of wins to guarantee a play-off berth at 14, and the Lady Cats should take a step closer to that against Eltham on Saturday night. Geelong split its weekend double-header with a rare win at Hume City, 83-71 on Saturday night. However, a Candice Rogers-less Lady Cats blew a 21 point lead early in the last quarter of Sunday’s clash with Melbourne Tigers. “We have to keep moving forward with our goal of 14 wins and a playoff spot. That doesn't change, so it's important to come back and get a win at home against Eltham before the long weekend break." Saturday night’s meeting with the cellar-dwelling Wildcats is the second of three between the sides in 2010. Last time they met, back in round six, the Lady Cats came out on top 66-49.

Division 1 Men (1st 9-2): vs. Melbourne University (3rd 7-4) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 3.00pm

The Cats will be looking to bounce back quickly from Sunday’s 80-66 loss to Hawthorn against fellow championship contenders Melbourne University. Coach Shayne Bow had been hoping players would step up in the absence of Jason Reardon, who is playing in China. However veteran guard Paul Hutchison (24 points) was the only Cat to heed the call. Reardon will again be missing for the clash with the Black Angels, however Craig Jarvis and Nick Van Der Klooster should return to bolster Geelong’s inside presence. It’s the first meeting between the two sides in 2010. Containing the one-two punch of Liam Norton and Nick Masunda, University isn’t short of firepower, and will be looking to put pressure on the Cats grip on top spot.

Youth League Women (4th 7-5): vs. Hume City (5th 6-5) @ Broadmeadows Basketball Centre, Sunday 1.00pm

Its crunch time for the Young Lady Cats. Coming off a devastating 78-40 loss to Melbourne Tigers, coach Kat Clancy is all too aware another performance like that will see her side tumble out of the top four for the first time this season. “It was our worst performance for the year and our reliance on a couple of players to fire each week is being worked out by opposition teams,” she said. “Our second string players are not stepping up to take the pressure off the others.” Sunday’s meeting with the Broncos will be the second between the two teams in 15 days. The last time they met Geelong fought back from a 17 point deficit to steal a 59-57 win. That night Jess Watson dominated with 29 points, but is unlikely to be afforded the same freedom on Sunday. “The girls need to regroup and go back to basics to get us over the line against Hume City,” Clancy concluded.

Youth League Men (7th 4-6): vs. Ringwood (5th 5-5) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 1.00pm

Their season revived, the Young Cats need a win over fellow finals aspirants Ringwood to keep the pressure on sides inside the top four heading into the mid-season break. Coach Dave Brown has been able to restore confidence to the playing group, which has seen three wins on the trot, including Sunday’s 91-74 result against Hume City. Much of the recent success can be attributed to the regular appearances of Steve Wiasak. The reigning YLM2 MVP is averaging 21ppg and 8rpg since the winning streak started. When the Young Cats last met the Hawks back in round 6, Wiasak didn’t play, as they suffered an 80-62 loss.
