Try Boys vs YMCA

A couple of competition heavyweights have flexed their muscle in Basketball Geelong Championship action on Tuesday night.

Ladder leader Pivot City proved too strong for finals contender Sharks 89-54 and reigning premier Christian College made light work of Try Boys 107-64.

The Pivotonians again had an even spread of scoring, with four players in double figures.

Among them were Christian Keepen (17 points) and Jason Reardon (16).

Dane Bow was Sharks’ best with 21 points.

Keith Harrison (39 points) and Mark Dorwood (29 points) proved the difference in the Eagles victory.

Nathan Maxwell led Try Boys with 27 points.

YMCA replaced Vytis inside the top four with a 75-59 win.

Veteran Jordan Hill starred for Y with 30 points, while Steve Wiasak finished with 16 for the Knights.

Brenton Walker (22 points) and Corey Smith (20 points) provided the one-two punch which helped Lara to a 70-61 win over Tigers.

Once again captain-coach Simon Evans carried the load for Tigers, scoring 22 points.

In the women’s competition Rovers Hawks upset clubmates Rovers 69-56 to hold onto fourth spot.

Youth League duo Lauren Bellegante (24 points) and Ellie Stevens (20) were the standouts for the Hawks.

Prue Kenny was Rovers’ best with 22.

Sharks kept alive their finals hopes with a comfortable 78-40 result against Pivot City.

Mel Schwarz (29 points), Sharon Ford (23) and Caitlin Newcombe (20) gave Sharks the scoring edge.

Jo Fazio (10 points) was the only Pivotonian in double figures.

Try Boys extended its lead at top of the ladder with five points with a 95-27 smashing of YMCA Cougars.

Katherine Brockett top scored for the Bears with 26 points, while Lady Cats’ star Anna Teague had 20.

Kim Martin led Cougars with 12 points.
