Round 18 Basketball Geelong Winter Division One Wrap

A very close game between Tigers & Pivot City.

Sharks have replaced Vytis inside the Basketball Geelong Championship top four with two rounds remaining in the regular season after Tuesday night’s 82-57 win over Rovers.

Big V Cat Dane Bow continued his fine season with 28 points and was ably supported by 22 from Daniel Hovey.

Andrew Olechnowicz again carried Rovers with 24 points.

The Knights have fallen to fifth with a 75-65 defeat at the hands of Christian College.

In a good sign for the Supercats, Nick Owusu scored 26 points for the Eagles as he continued his recovery from injury.

Steve Wiasak was Vytis’ best with 21 points.

Pivot City continued to maintain a two point buffer on Try Boys Bears at the top of the ladder with a 65-48 result against Tigers.

Pivot was missing key trio James Walker, Christian Keepen and Jason Reardon, however Jamie Medved (17 points) and Sani Zorlak (15) more than picked up the slack.

Tigers were led by 22 points from Ben Scannell.

The Bears had an impressive seven players in double figures in a 109-53 smashing of Lara.

Steve Hyland was impressive with 21 points, while veteran Glenn Sharp knocked down four three’s in his haul of 17.

The Giants’ best was Brenton Walker with 10 points.

Dolphins climbed off the bottom of ladder with their second win of the season, 72-60 over Try Boys.

Geelong Youth League teammates Ben McCawley and Mikey Lesic both had 1 7 points for Dolphins.

Nathan Maxwell led Try Boys with 21 points.

In the women’s competition, YMCA held off potential semi-final opponents Rovers Hawks 59-53, despite again missing Lady Cats’ trio Jae Conn, Vicki King and Candice Rogers.

Ash Hatton’s solid run of form continued with 26 points for Y, while youngster Lauren Bellegante led the Hawks with 18.

Rovers sewed up the double chance with a 74-63 victory over YMCA Cougars.

Lana Ryder starred for Rovers with 24 points, with Rachel Alldis contributing 17.

Jana Van Parreren was best for the Cougars with 14.

Minor premiers Try Boys were again impressive in dispatching Sharks 75-30.

The impressive scoring run of Katherine Brockett continued with 30 points for Bears.

Kara Shuttleworth had 13 points for Sharks.
