Big V Semi-Finals Update (State Championship Women)

Grantley Bernard

Geelong Lady Cats are in into their first ever State Championship Women grand final with a 79-63 win over Melbourne Tigers in game two of their best-of-three semi-final series.

After a dominant first half, in which they took an 18 point lead into the main break, the Lady Cats were forced to work hard for their historic victory by a young Tigers' outfit who were missing Australian squad member Elyse Penaluna.

However nine was the closest Melbourne could get in the run home, as the Lady Cats steadied to sweep the Tigers.

As they did in game one, Grantley Bernard's roster were able to spread the scoring load with five players scoring in double figures.

Anna Teague's stellar run of form continued with an impressive 16 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Candice Rogers was again solid with four assists providing the icing on the cake of 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Jae Conn (12 points), Kylie Morrissy (11) and Maddy Taylor (10) were able to provide extra offensive threats.

The Lady Cats now meet perennial grand finalists Hume City.

Game one is next Saturday, August 21 at Broadmeadows.

Game two is the following Saturday, August 28 at The Arena Annexe.

Game three (if required) will be Sunday August 29.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
