Basketball Geelong Division One Wrap- Finals Week 1

Pivot City and Try Boys Bears turned on a classic Basketball Geelong Championship second semi-final on Tuesday night, with the Pivotonians sneaking home by a point 79-78 to clinch a grand final berth.

The one-two punch of Jamie Medved (27 points) and Jason Reardon (26) outpointing Bears’ trio Paul Hutchison (27 points), Marty De Lange (18) and Glenn Sharp (14)

The Bears will meet Christian College in next week’s preliminary final after the Eagles ended Sharks’ breakout season with a 69-48 result in the first semi-final.

Supercat Nick Owusu finished with 20 points, while veteran duo Seb Loader (14) and Leon O’Neill (12) provided the support.

Dane Bow was the only Shark to reach double figures, finishing with 17.

It was better news for Try Boys in the women’s competition, with the all-conquering minor premier holding off Rovers 45-35 in a scrappy second semi-final.

Fresh from a dominant Big V finals series, Anna Teague led all scorers with 15 for the Bears.

Lana Ryder finished with 13 for Rovers.

Rovers now face YMCA in a second semi-final, after Y handed Rovers Hawks a 69-44 first semi-final hiding.

Experienced Lady Cats’ trio Jae Conn (20 points), Ash Hatton (18) and Vicki King (14) ensured YMCA had few problems with the young Rovers’ squad, who had just five players available.

Ellie Stevens was the star for Rovers with 16 points.
