The St
Laurence Geelong Supercats with Basketball Geelong in association with Laserquest
have recently embarked on a new initiative to further develop local basketball
talent through the Aspiring Supercats
Program.
Like any
community based organisation the difficulty in facilitating a free player camp
comes down to cost and the support the Supercats have received from Geelong
Supercats player Sebastian Loader through his local business “Laserquest” has enabled this development camp
to become a reality.
This new
program (ASP) is being run in
conjunction with Basketball Geelong and with their consultation players have
been selected to gain the opportunity to participate in this inaugural program.
2010 has been a huge success for the St Laurence Geelong
Supercats with the team taking home both the South Conference and All SEABL
Championship Titles.
This success along with the development of a rookie
program linked to Basketball Geelong augurs well for the development of future
Supercats players.
The Supercats Team are predominantly made up of home
grown talent from the Geelong Region under the Supercats 70% local content
guidelines.
The St Laurence Geelong Supercats coaching staff is
committed to providing a player pathway that will continue this tradition and
the Aspiring Supercats Program is the beginning of that pathway
targeting players from under 16 and 18 age groups.
Under the astute guidance of Supercats Head Coach
Jamie O’Loughlin the program will provide participants with training and
insight into the ‘life of a Supercat’. The ASP will allow these development
players the opportunity to understand
and experience the expectations of higher level basketball including exposure
to the team concept/skill development, pre and post game requirements, drills,
strength and conditioning and game play.
The
Aspiring Supercats Program is having a facility tour and participant T-Shirt Presentation
this Thursday 4th November from 6.30pm at the Arena followed by on-court
session.
