Division One Men (2nd 4-1): vs. Sunbury (11th 1-5) @ Boardman Stadium, Saturday 7.30pm

A meeting with arch rival Sunbury confronts the Cats following the Easter Break. Geelong is well placed after the first month of the season and rested up after a comfortable win over Whittlesea. The Jets on the other hand are anchored to the bottom of the table and will be keen to lift for their home fans. They showed signs of turning the corner last week, pushing Chelsea to two points. “It’s going to be a hard match as always when it's Sunbury at Sunbury, no matter
where they sit on the ladder,” coach Shayne Bow.
With Jason Reardon unlikely to play because of football commitments on Saturday afternoon, Marty De Lange and Steve Wiasak are likely to shoulder most of the offensive load. De Lange especially has been in great form to start the season, including 22 points in the victory over Pacers. Wiasak, who was the dominant player at State Youth Championship level in 2009-10, has made the most of increased minutes from coach Shayne Bow. He’s averaged 10.6ppg and 5.4rpg to start the season.

State Youth Championship One Men (4th 3-2): vs. Diamond Valley (3rd 4-1) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 2.00pm

Sunday’s clash with junior powerhouse Diamond Valley presents a massive challenge for the Cats. Making it even tougher will be the likely absence of Michael Rebula and Lachie Headlam. The star duo will be at Nunawading with the Supercats’ squad. However Nathan Freind will be back after missing the win over Sherbrooke prior to Easter. With the Division One men playing Saturday night, talented big Ben McCawley is likely to be available for Sunday’s clash with the Eagles. McCawley had an impressive 20 points and 12 rebounds to help the Cats come from behind to beat the Suns. Also needing another big game is star guard Emerson Varley. A Supercats’ rookie, Varley produced his best performance for the season against Sherbrooke. He was not too far away from a triple-double with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. A win over Diamond Valley will give some legitimacy to the playoff claims of Luke Beauglehall’s team.

State Youth Championship Women (4th 3-2): vs. Eltham (3rd 4-2) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 12.00pm

Coach Kat Clancy is confident in her team’s ability to win without star duo Jess Watson and Ellie Stevens, despite the Lady Supercats’ pair playing significant roles in all of Geelong’s three wins. Their absence means a couple of Basketball Geelong under 18’s will get a chance to impress at State Youth Championship level. “We need to prove to ourselves that we can win without the Supercats players, because we are good enough to do so,” coach Clancy said. “Eltham will be a tough contest, but unlike previous years they have proven to be beatable (this season).” The other Jess- Barnard- will need to provide the interior offensive muscle in Watson’s absence. Guards Sophie Templeton and Lauren Bellegante both had double figures against Bulleen before Easter, and will need similar performances in Sunday’s clash with the Wildcats.
