Division One Men (2nd 5-2): vs. Latrobe City (4th 4-3) @ Traralgon Basketball Stadium, Saturday 8.15pm

The run of important games continues for Geelong with a trek to Traralgon to take on Latrobe City. After helping guide the Cats to a 73-61 victory over Hawthorn with 30 points (including six three-pointers), 18 rebounds, three assists and three steals, Jason Reardon’s football commitments will again make him unavailable. Veteran guard Paul Hutchison was the only other player to score in double figures against the Magic, however other than the skipper and Reardon, nobody played more than 25 minutes. “It was a good win against a quality side with all players contributing,” coach Shayne Bow said of the victory over Hawthorn. Bow has conceded the clash with the Pacers on Saturday night will be a tough one. “It’s time for people to maintain their input and keep improving,” Bow said.

State Youth Championship One Men (8th 3-4): vs. Ringwood (2nd 7-2) @ The Arena Annexe, Saturday 8.00pm

The Cats have slid back into the pack on the State Youth Championship ladder after being pulled apart in the second half of their weekend clash with Eltham. The Cats were able to keep the margin to 14 points at the main break, but were outscored by the Wildcats 54-31 in the second half, to fall 107-70. “Eltham came out and put their foot down and pulled away,” coach Luke Beauglehall said of the second half. “Again we were left wanting on defence.” Nathan Freind finished with 17 points, Ben McCawley had 16 to go with nine rebounds and Lewie Varley 15. Ringwood will provide another challenge for Geelong, who will be without McCawley and Ben Scannell. Both will be on duty with the Division One men. However Michael Rebula and Lachie Headlam are unlikely to make the trip to Brisbane with the Supercats and will provide some much need offensive punch.

State Youth Championship Women (5th Terrill Conference 4-3): vs. Sunbury (7th Terrill Conference 0-7) @ The Arena Annexe, Saturday 6.00pm

Geelong’s unhealthy reliance on Jess Watson and Ellie Stevens was laid bare for all to see in Saturday night’s top of the table clash Terrill Conference with Diamond Valley. The Cats trailed 16-8 at the first break after an admirable defensive effort on the unbeaten Eagles. However the ladder leader showed why they are the team to beat, summarily dissecting Geelong with a 34-11 second quarter to end the match as a contest. They committed a woeful 38 turnovers, with Ebony Tannouri (11) and Sophie Templeton (10) the chief offenders. “Diamond Valley played a full court press the whole game and our turnover count showed that it was very successful,” coach Kat Clancy said. “Their shooting was percentage was high, due to great ball movement, resulting in many uncontested shots.” Watson will return for the clash with the winless Jets after playing 10 quality minutes in the Lady Supercats win over Sandringham.
