Basketball Geelong Championship Wrap Round 2

Sharks and Try Boys have played out a 78-all draw in Basketball Geelong Championship on Tuesday night.

In a match where the lead was never greater than three at any of the breaks, Bear Patrick Phillips almost carried his team to victory in the final quarter.

He scored nine of his 20 points in the last term, finishing second only to veteran guard Paul Hutchison (25) for scoring honours.

An improved Sharks outfit had five players score in double figures, with Dane Bow their best with 17.

A Jason Reardon-inspired Pivot City held off archrival YMCA 68-62.

The former Supercats’ great had 29 points, including 10 in the last quarter.

Kris Van Parreren was Y’s best with 22.

Vytis topped the ton in its 100-48 smashing of Lara.

Steve Wiasak set the tone for the Knights with 15 of his 32 points in the opening quarter, as they established a match-winning 29-7 advantage.

Sam Van Ingen paced the Giants with 14 points.

The more experienced White roster had the better of Silver in the all-Christian College affair, 93-73.

However it was Youth League star Nathan Freind (29 points) and Marcus Larcombe (28) who provided the bulk of White’s scoring output.

Jake Cameron was easily Silver’s best, finishing with an impressive 35 point haul.

Rovers opened its account for the season with a 48-37 result against Dolphins.

Andrew Tonkin led Rovers with 16 points, while big Ben McCawley had 16 for Dolphins.

In the women’s competition, Ellie Stevens (26 points) and Jess Watson (20) combined to help Rovers to an 81-71 win over Dolphins.

Rovers led by 17 at half-time, however a 16 point third quarter from Lady Supercat Cortney Williamson (28 points) ensured they wouldn’t have it all their own way.

Pivot City caused a minor upset, beating Try Boys 56-48.

Ana Marinovic had 20 points for the Pivotonians, as did Anisa Sijersic led the Bears with 20.

Katherine Brockett, who is back from a stint at college in the United States, finished with 10 points for Try Boys.

Candice Rogers proved the difference between YMCA and Sharks, scoring 34 points in Y’s 60-54 win.

Sharon Ford again led Sharks, finishing with 20 points.
