Division One Men (1st 7-2): vs. Southern Peninsula (2nd 7-3) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 2.00pm

Top spot and championship favouritism goes on the line when Geelong meets Southern Peninsula on Sunday. The Cats are coming off a third-straight win, after seeing off Melbourne University 85-77. Despite the margin being just eight points, the Black Angels made the scoreline respectable with a 33-19 final quarter. Despite Jason Reardon playing a rare Saturday night away game, his influence was minimal on the stats sheet, scoring just four points and grabbing six rebounds in 15 minutes of court time. Paul Hutchison led the way with 16 points, while Steve Wiasak and Craig Jarvis provided the support with 15 points apiece. Southern Peninsula held top spot until last week’s loss 83-76 loss to Warrnambool on the road. The Sharks have an even spread of scorers, with four players averaging in double figures for the season. Yusef Smith (16.4ppg, 11.1 rpg, 2.6 blkpg) is the key to their success.

State Youth Championship One Men (8th 4-5): vs. Bulleen (10th 1-9) @ Templestowe Leisure Centre, Saturday 7.00pm

The Cats have a chance to square their win-loss ledger when they meet the lowly Bulleen on Saturday night. Geelong is coming off a confidence-boosting 106-60 hiding of Hume City. The contest was effectively over at quarter-time after a 31-7 opening period. Although Michael Rebula, Lachie Headlam and Nathan Freind all played, it was another Supercats’ rookie who dominated. Marcus Larcombe stepping out of the shadows to pile on 30 points on 68.8 per cent shooting, as well as grabbing seven rebounds. Ben McCawley provided the exclamation mark with a 16 point final quarter, to finish with 20 for the contest. “We played great defence, which had been our focus point and didn't take our foot off for the whole game,” coach Luke Beauglehall said. “It was the first time we had a full squad to work with and it showed from the start we were ready to play.”

State Youth Championship Women (2nd Watson Conference 6-3): vs. Hawthorn (4th Watson Conference 5-5) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 12.00pm

The challenges keep coming for Geelong with a clash against fellow play-off contenders Hawthorn. The first meeting between the two sides resulted in a 49-44 win for the Magic. However the Cats come into this clash looking for a third-straight win after holding off Whittlesea 52-43 on Saturday night. They also should have the services of Lady Supercats’ duo Jess Watson and Ellie Stevens. Captain Sharon Ford starred in the win over the Pacers, scoring 16 points, hauling in nine rebounds and grabbing six steals. Jess Barnard (nine points, 18 rebounds, six steals and six blocks) was also impressive. “Last time we played Whittlesea, we were beaten by 17 points and they dominated all aspects of the game, especially rebounding,” coach Kat Clancy said. “This time we stuck to our game plan, ensuring their two tall’s could not get the ball so easily.”
