Victorian Junior Championship
Under 16 Boys Round 1
Geelong Cats 43 lost to Broadmeadows 46
Top Scorers: B. Mayes 9, R. Kennedy 8, G. Blagojevic 8
Coach’s Comment: “Playing at Broadmeadows the boys seemed to start this game well, holding a slender lead at quarter time. That however signalled a change in our momentum and energy levels as the team appeared to be lethargic and lacked intensity for the remainder of this game. At half time Geelong was down 30-26 and needing some inspiration to get back on even terms. It was not until late in the final quarter that Geelong started to close the gap, but missed opportunities and some soft defence resulted in a narrow four-point loss.”
Under 12 Girls Round 1
Geelong Cats 47 def. Frankston 26
Top Scorers: Z. McKeegan 16, A. Garcia 6, M. Scarlett 6
Coach’s Comment: Having played Frankston at the National Junior Classic over the long weekend and battling to a three-point win, we knew we were in for a tight contest. To the girls' credit we played a great defensive and attacking game and came away with a comfortable win.

Coach’s Comment: “Some patches of really good basketball unfortunately went to waste with a little too much dribbling again and skipping passing lanes with our passing. Strong rebounding and composure in the back court will help us bounce back next week.”

Victorian Junior League Four
Under 18 Boys Round 11
Geelong Cats (2) 62 def. Diamond Valley (4) 45
Top Scorers: N. Lemke 20, D. Duggan 10, J. McFall 10
Coach’s Comment: We learnt a lot from the long weekend Ballarat tournament. Not only did we play Diamond Valley twice, which was a golden opportunity to work them out, but we found where our bar is set. We sprayed on a bit of 'essence of team', and took them straight to that bar. We seemed to find the gaps easily and worked hard on the boards both ends. We paid attention to what was going on, and turned most things (!) to our advantage. A pleasing result in the second half of the season.

Geelong Cats (2) 30 def. Collingwood 26
Top Scorers: A. Stone 7, E. Braslis 5
Coach’s Comment: “We were a little bit flat this week and this was reflected in the work we did away from the basketball. This resulted in us taking far too many contested shots and our foul shooting was very ordinary to boot, with 5-of-19 from the stripe. I'm confident that we'll bounce back and give Keilor a good showing on Friday night.”
