Try Boys replaced Christian College White in second spot on the Basketball Geelong men’s championship ladder with a 69-67 win over the Eagles on Tuesday night.

In a match where the margin was never more than four points at the breaks, the Bears were able to hold on for their ninth win of the season.

Big V trio Paul Hutchison (18 points), Patty Phillips (16) and Marty De Lange (14) did most of the damage for Try Boys.

Supercats’ rookie Marcus Larcombe had 27 points for the Eagles, while veteran big man Seb Loader chipped in with 18.

Christian College Silver held off a fast-finishing Rovers for a 45-43 win.

Silver held a 14 point lead at three-quarter time, however Rovers nearly stole the match thanks to a 17-5 final term.

Tim King again led Christian College with 12 points, while Brett Goodgame was nearly the hero for Rovers, scoring 13 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter.

Lewie Varley carried over his fine form from the Big V State Youth Championship in Sharks 82-50 result against Lara.

He finished with a game-high 20 points, while Dane Bow had 18.

Andrew Almond was impressive with 16 points for Lara.

Ladder-leader Pivot City had too many aces for Tigers in a 91-54 win.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Pivotonians, with veteran Adam Clapinski the star with 26 points.

Ben Scannell shot 17 points for Tigers.

YMCA had the better of Dolphins 47-40 in a low-scoring contest.

Jordan Hill was again Y’s best with 14 points.

Simon Laugesen paced Dolphins with 10 points.

In the women’s competition Sharks made the most of the absence of injured Lady Supercats’ duo Alex Sheedy and Cortney Williamson to post a comfortable 77-44 win.

Talented youngster Georgia Varley (24 points) and MVP contender Sharon Ford (23 points) provided the offensive output for Sharks.

Kim Martin was the only Dolphin in double-figures, scoring 22 points.

A 31 point haul from Candice Rogers hasn’t been enough for YMCA to take the points against Lara.

The Giants posted a much-needed win 63-49 thanks to a 25-10 final quarter.

Rogers’ Lady Supercats teammate Caitlin Shadbolt scored 11 of her 24 points in the last period.

Anisa Sijersic was the difference between Try Boys and Rovers, scoring 26 points in the Bears 58-49 victory.

Lauren Bellegante was Rovers’ best with 14 points.
