Division One Men (1st 14-5): vs. Altona (10th 4-14) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 2.00pm

The Cats sealed their third minor premiership in four years with a 75-66 win over Southern Peninsula. Geelong came from two points behind at three-quarter time to claim win number 14, blowing away the Sharks with a 31-20 final period. Paul Hutchison continued his late-season resurgence, scoring 20 points. Jason Reardon had 14 points and an incredible 21 rebounds to provide the major support, while Chris Brown (8 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists) and Steve Wiasak (10 points) had more minor, but not insignificant roles. “They threw everything at us in the hope of keeping their finals chances alive,” coach Shayne Bow said. “But to our credit, we hit some crunch baskets when needed in the last quarter.” The last time the Cats met Altona, back in round 13, they came away with a comfortable 27 point win. “No game has been easy this year and this one will be no exception,” Bow said. “We need to put together a four-quarter game and a win to give us some extra confidence heading into the finals.”

State Youth Championship One Men (9th 6-13): vs. Altona (7th 8-11) @ The Arena Annexe, Sunday 12.00pm

Geelong was no match for finals-bound Ringwood, blown out of the water 127-84 on Saturday night. The Hawks had an incredible 74 points on the board by half-time, while holding the Cats to 40. It got worse in the third quarter, with Ringwood, which had seven scorers in double-figures, outscoring the Cats 30-11. Michael Rebula and Nathan Friend top scored for Geelong with 23 and 19 points respectively, only hours after stepping of the plane from Tasmania where they’d been with the Supercats for their double-header in the Apple Isle. Rebula, Freind and Lachie Headlam are likely to miss the final game against Altona through Supercats’ commitments. The last time the Cats met the Gators they suffered a disappointing 93-65 loss. Coach Luke Beauglehall will be keen to end a season that has never really got going with a win.

State Youth Championship Women (4th Watson Conference 10-8): vs. Bulleen (3rd Watson Conference 10-8) @ Templestowe Leisure Centre, Sunday 1.30pm

The Cats picked the right time to deliver their most complete performance of the season. With a finals spot still up for grabs, Geelong made a statement that will have other teams taking notice, belting Hume City 102-59. Five players scored in double-figures. However, it was Jess Watson (24 points, 15 rebounds and five assists) and captain Sharon Ford (21 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and three assists) who deserve most of the plaudits. Jess Barnard also made a welcome return to form with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Geelong’s clash with Bulleen has plenty riding on it, with both teams still in the mix to finish second on the Watson Conference ladder. However, Geelong can still miss if they lose this one and Whittlesea defeats Eltham. Watson and Ellie Stevens are unlikely to be available, with the Lady Supercats in action on Sunday against Frankston. The last meeting between Geelong and Bulleen resulted in a scrappy 50-42 win for the Cats.
