Big V D1M Grand Final Wrap- Game 3

Basketball Geelong

For the the first time since 2001, when the competition was known as VBL Premier Division, Geelong has claimed a men's championship.

The Cats scored an all the way win over Warrnambool 89-67 in game three of the Big V Division One grand final series, after leveling the bout at one-all on Saturday night.

In potentially his last game for Geelong, in a career of more than 350 games with both the Cats and Supercats, captain Paul Hutchison top scored with 20 points.

Jason Reardon, while not as dominant offensively in game three, was still impressive, scoring 17 points, grabbing 22 rebounds and dishing seven assists.

He capped a fine three games by being named MVP.

Marty De Lange and Steve Wiasak provided the back-up support with 14 points apiece, while Patty Phillips finished with 12.

For Warrnambool, playing coach Tim Gainey had 18 points, before he was ejected in controversial final quarter.

Import Cameron Mitchell also fouled out, but not before picking up 14 points and 13 rebounds, while veteran Bobby Cunningham finished with 10.
