Geelong's elite showcase their skills

The best of the regions basketballers were out in force at the weekend, as the Geelong Supercats conducted inaugural tryouts for their 2011/12 junior teams at the Geelong Arena.

The Geelong Supercats Basketball Club has grown from a single men’s team to include the Geelong Lady Supercats (2011) and Junior Teams (2012).

Tryouts were conducted for both girls and boys, under 12’s through to under 18’s with selected teams competing in the Victorian Junior Basketball Leagues (VJBL) and Basketball Victoria Country Championships.

Lady Supercats Head Coach Paul O’Brien was impressed with the turnout

“I was looking at the future of the Geelong Lady Supercats on court today and we are looking good”

Coach O’Brien was on hand to put players through their paces and provide assistance to the junior team coaches.

His leadership and experience at an elite coaching level will provide a solid support infrastructure for the junior team coaches.

“The Geelong Supercats Basketball Club now offers an integrated program from top to bottom. You can step onto the court in under 12’s and play your entire basketball career with the Geelong Supercats in the state’s top leagues”

The Geelong Supercats Junior Teams will be announced Wednesday 19 October 2011.
