Big V coaches confirmed

Grantley Bernard

The only coach to deliver Basketball Geelong the holy grail of a Big V State Championship women's pennant will return to the programme after a year's break.

Grantley Bernard, who guided the Lady Cats to a drought-breaking title in 2010, will return to lead the State Youth Championship women's squad in 2012.

He replaces Kat Herbert, who was in charge of the Young Lady Cats inaugural two season's in the competition, which included a play-off appearance this year.

"I got a phone call out of the blue asking if I would be interested in the SYCW job," Bernard said.

"After a year off and doing some different things and talking it through with my wife, it seemed like a good time to rejoin the program as it becomes integrated with the Supercats program.

"The SYCW’s program has a lot of potential with the players already involved and those coming through, so it’s an exciting challenge to help develop the young talent and try to promote players to the Lady Supercats and beyond."

Shayne Bow will return to spearhead the Cats' defence of its Big V Division One championship.

It will be Bow's fourth year in charge of Basketball Geelong's senior men's team.

For a second straight season, Luke Beauglehall will oversee the fortunes of the State Youth Championship men's roster, with Glenn Dyett to again act as assistant

Beauglehall's first season in charge resulted in a ninth-placed finish after posting a 6-14 record.
