Try Outs - U20's, Youth League (Big V) and Division 1 (Big V)

State Championship Winners

The Geelong women’s program will step up another notch with the inclusion of a second Big V team in the women’s program in 2012. This program will be in addition to the Youth League Women’s team and reinforce the pathway for basketballers in Geelong developing towards potential Lady Supercat’s inclusion in the national competition SEABL.

Geelong’s women’s program is stronger than ever, with the number of talented players running deep.

Experienced Geelong coach Darren Busuttil will be on hand to oversee the D1W Big V Tryouts, until an official appointment is made for the position. He will join Paul O’Brien (Lady Supercats), Jamie O’Loughlin (Supercats), Leon O’Neil (Supercats), Alan McKee (Supercats), Grantley Bernard (Youth Women), Shayne Bow (Division 1 Men), Luke Beauglehall (Youth Men), Glenn Dyett (Youth Men), David Naylor (U20 Men) and Craig Jarvis (U20 Men).  This group is arguably Geelong’s strongest qualified senior coaching group which augurs well for the direction and development of players within Geelong.

The need for a second team in the Big V competition has come from our growing club based competition. This summer season will see nine teams entered as younger players via for the coveted place of a spot on their club’s championship season roster.

Lady Supercat team mates Kylie Morrissy (Rovers), Anna Teague (Try Boys), Candice Rogers (YMCA), Cortney Williamson (Dolphins) and Caitlin Shadbolt (Lara) may be a close nit group when playing for Geelong in the SEABL but hold nothing back when they go head to head representing their club in the Basketball Geelong competition.

The talented list of female players extends well into the junior program. With Grace Parker, Kiarne Bourke, Gemma Morrison and Emma Wilkinson all getting the call up for Victoria Country as they attend the Australian Junior Country Cup and inaugural Southern Cross Basketball Challenge.

Basketball Geelong President Frank Morrissy is complimentary of the coaching appointments and is looking forward to seeing the talented group of players at Try Outs.

“We are very fortunate as an association to have such a talented group of local coaches who are committed to the Geelong program”

“We are in for an exciting year, as we look at the number of quality players within our program – try outs are going to be tough”
