Leisuretime Centre
Two stadiums at the Leisuretime Centre have been upgraded to meet international FIBA standards.
The Beggs and Branch stadiums were sanded back and recoated last month and new basketball lines were painted according to FIBA standards.
Corio Ward Councillor Kylie Fisher said the upgrades ensured Leisuretime remains Basketball Geelong’s second home (behind the Arena).
“The upgrade means there are now three international FIBA standard courts at the Leisuretime Centre, which means more games can be played there,” said Cr Fisher.
“The new lines provide lines for five different sports – basketball, futsal, netball, volleyball and badminton.”
“This upgrade will mean the sports floors can be kept to the highest standard for many years to come.”
“Leisuretime is Geelong's largest indoor open spaced stadium and there is always heaps happening there for people of all ages and abilities.”
“We pride ourselves on being a healthy and active community so it’s important that we have quality, up to date facilities that encourage people to take part in sport,” said Cr Fisher.
Basketball Geelong President Frank Morrissy said the City of Greater Geelong’s investment back into the Leisuretime Centre was great for sport.
“Our use of the facility is on the increase and the improvements provide basketballers from around Geelong with another reason to enjoy playing at the Leisuretime Centre,” said Mr Morrissy.
