Dolphins v Eagles (Silver)

THE HEROICS of Ben McCawley weren’t enough to get Dolphins past an understrength Christian College in the opening round of the Geelong Basketball League men’s Division 1 season on Tuesday night.

The talented big man had 40 points, however it was the Eagles who prevailed 105-100.

All six players who took to the floor for Christian College scored in double-figures, with Supercat Nathan Friend their best with 32.

Jason Reardon spearheaded Pivot City’s 90-61 victory over Tigers.

After a tight first-half, Pivot exploded on the back of Reardon’s 32 points in the final two quarters.

Playing coach Simon Evans kept Tigers competitive with 19 points.

Veteran shooter Paul Hutchison started his latest GBL campaign with a 32-point haul in Try Boy’s 81-69 win over YMCA.

Chris Daniele provided the support to Hutchison with 16 points.

Riley (24 points) and Mitch (20 points) Herbert were best for Y.

22 points from Craig Jarvis inspired Sharks to a 60-44 victory over Rovers.

Dane Bow was also important with 18 points, while Simon Robertson paced Rovers with 15 points.

In women’s Division 1 action, Sarah De Grandi played the hero in Try Boys nail-biting 59-57 result against Lara.

The veteran hit the game winning shot with time about to expire to finish the match with eight points.

However, Anisa Sijercic (22 points) and rising youngster Kendyl Collins (17 points) were the stars for the Bears.

Lady Supercat Caitlin Shadbolt had 28 points for the Giants, who had just three players on the scoresheet.

Dolphins made the most of an understrength YMCA, pulling away after half-time for a comfortable 70-47 win.

Cortney Williamson was the difference between the two sides with 27 points, while Lauren Handreck and Kim Martin both had 12 points.

Tenielle Buckby impressed with 17 points for Y.

A full-strength Rovers’ line-up proved too much for Sharks to handle, 61-40.

Jess Watson’s 12 points were best in an even team performance.

Maddy White finished with eight points for Sharks.
