Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Round 3 Wrap

Try Boys maintained its unbeaten start to the Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s season with a nail-biting 77-76 win over Christian College.

The Bears had five players score in double-figures, with veteran duo Glenn Sharp and Paul Hutchison the stars with 20 and 18 points respectively.

Nathan Freind was the Eagles’ best with 32 points.

Former Supercat James Walker made the most of his size advantage with a 16-point haul in Pivot City’s 57-45 victory over YMCA.

Nick Kent (13 points) and Steve Packers provided the outside shooting to complement Walker’s interior presence for Pivot.

Riley Herbert impressed for Y with 22 points.

Ben McCawley continued his stunning start to the season with a 28-point effort in Dolphins’ upset 57-49 win against Vytis.

It gives the Big V Supercat an average of 33.7ppg after the opening three rounds.

Romas Liebich (13 points) and Steve Wiasak (12 points) were best for the Knights.

Tigers made light work of Rovers, handing out a 90-47 hiding.

Dion Smith starred with 24 points for the winners, who had five players in double-figures.

Simon Robertson paced Rovers with 14 points.

Pivot City held off a determined Sharks outfit for a 55-54 victory in the best of the women’s Division 1 contests.

Jo Fazio, Ebony Tannouri and Lauren Moloney all finished with 12 points for Pivot, while Sharon Ford dropped 15 points for Sharks.

YMCA was too good for Lara in a match-up of two understrength squads, winning 47-37.

Youngster Shaan Blythe was Y’s best with 16 points, while Big V Lady Supercat Ash Hatton scored 13

The Giants were best served by Rebekah Drake’s 13 points.

Lauren Bellegante and Jess Watson both finished with 24 points as Rovers handed Dolphins a 76-33 drubbing.

Kim Martin’s 10 points were best for Dolphins who sorely missed SEABL Lady Supercat Cortney Williamson.
