Basketball Geelong are excited to announce that Williams will be here in Geelong as the official host of the FIBA 3x3 event – “Corey “Homicide” Williams is no stranger to Australian shores – having played two seasons in the NBL, including winning the league MVP in 2010, as well as playing five games for SEABL team Brisbane Spartans. He is looking forward to getting back on to Australian soil, and even more so to be involved in the Whoosh at the Waterfront event.

After announcing last week that Geelong had won the right to host this inaugural FIBA 3x3 World Tour Qualifier tournament – the only one of its kind in Australia – organisers set about finding people to be involved in the historic event.

Williams was the perfect candidate to host the inaugural FIBA 3x3 event in Geelong, being well known in international streetball circles as well as renowned in Australia. Making a name for himself as one of the most entertaining players Australian basketball has seen in recent times, his energy and passion for the game are contagious. He has also been invited to attend the World Tour event in Valdivostok, Russia, where the two grand finalists from the Geelong event will be flown to compete in the final.

Williams is looking forward to being part of this event. "I am extremely excited and very appreciative to have this opportunity to be the ambassador for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Qualifier in Geelong this June, especially as it is the first of its kind to ever hit the shores of Australia,”said Williams.
“As you all should know Streetball/outdoor basketball I hold dearly to my heart because it has done so much for me and my career, and I know that there's undiscovered talent out there that's going to shine that weekend. I look forward to being a part of history in Australia.”

“In my four year NBL career with the Townsville Crocodiles and the Melbourne Tigers, I've always considered Australia my home away from home, so it will definitely be great to head back down under and catch up with my Aussie mates!"

The official logo of the Whoosh at the Waterfront event has also been unveiled (below), with a nod to the urban nature of the game with a graffiti style art look and incorporating Geelong’s iconic waterfront sails. Basketball Geelong Chief Executive Officer Andrew Scotford says the logo reflects the relationship of this new event with Geelong and its iconic locations and will feature across the promotion of the event.

“The Waterfront and the sails are synonymous with Geelong and we want this event to be a part of the WE ARE GEELONG ethos that exists here,” Scotford said.
