Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Round 10 Wrap

The unbeaten start to the Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s season of Try Boys remains intact, but only just.

The Bears were forced to work for a 59-53 win over rivals YMCA on Tuesday night at Geelong Arena.

Star quartet Marty De Lange (16 points), Dom Friend (11), Chris Daniele (11) and Paul Hutchison (10) all scored in double-figures, resulting in an even spread of scorers for Try Boys.

Riley Herbert carried over his fine Big V State Youth Championship form with 16 points, while Young Supercats’ teammate Lewie Varley shot 11.

Pivot City maintained second spot on the ladder with a narrow 59-54 win against Tigers.

Former SEABL Supercat Luke Osborn (16 points) impressed with 16 points, while Matt McCormack dropped 15.

Playing-coach Simon Evans was the only Tiger to reach double-figures, shooting well for 28 points.

Christian College moved into the top four with a 98-78 result against Dolphins.

Jackson Bentley produced the best game of his short GBL career, knocking down 25 points.

Mikey Lesic, buoyed by his cameo appearance in the Big V Supercats’ win over Altona, starred for Dolphins with 29.

Ladder leader Rovers showed little mercy to Sharks in posting a comfortable 70-26 result to maintain top spot on the GBL Division 1 women’s ladder.

Lady Supercats captain Kylie Morrissy impressed for Rovers with 24 points, while Bree Cail chimed in with 15.

Kim Martin was best for Dolphins with eight points.

Veteran guard Vicki King continued her impressive run of GBL form, shooting 28 points in a 59-39 victory over YMCA.

Candice Rogers provided the support for Y, scoring 18 points.

Fellow Lady Supercat Abby Schrader played a lone hand for the Giants, finishing the contest with 32 points.

Pivot City continued its mid-season revival with a 58-45 win against Sharks.

Bianca Cheever was against the dominant player on the court, scoring 22 points.

Talented youngster Maddy White ensured Sharks would be competitive, shooting 19 points.
