Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Round 11 Wrap

Pivot City claimed top spot on the Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s ladder with a nailbiting 46-45 win over the previously unbeaten Try Boys.

The Pivotonians were able to hang on for victory after a late three-point attempt by the Bears failed to hit the mark.

Pivot, who were without Jason Reardon, were best served by 12 points from Steve Packer.

While Try Boys, who went into the contest minus Paul Hutchison, had Marty De Lange and Tim Diamond headline their scoring with 12 points apiece.

Dolphins quest for a shock finals berth remains on track after a tight 63-61 result against Rovers.

Big V Supercat duo Ben McCawley and Mikey Lesic both scored 23 points for Dolphins, with 24 from Simon Robertson best for Rovers.

Sharks moved to within two points of third spot with a 48-30 over Vytis.

Guard James Deocampo was impressive for Sharks, scoring 20 points, while the only Knight in double-figures was Lachie Headlam, who shot 11 points.

Nathan Freind exploded for 37 points in Christian College’s 104-73 win over Tigers.

He was one of five Eagles in double figures, with George Blagojevic (18 points) and Lucas Tanis (16) also impressing.

Playing coach Simon Evans led by example, dropping 33 points for Tigers.

Pivot City further consolidated its spot in the top four with a 46-44 win over YMCA in the highlight game of the GBL Division 1 women’s competition.

In a see-sawing encounter, Pivot had its nose in front when it counted.

Former GBL MVP Olivia Cameron paced the scoring for Pivot City with 14 points, while for Y Vicki King was again their main offensive threat with 16.

SEABL Lady Supercat Caitlin Shadbolt starred with 38 points in Lara’s 79-55 result against Dolphins.

Geelong teammate Cortney Williamson was just as impressive for Dolphins, scoring 30 points.

Sharks made the most of an undermanned Try Boys squad to post a 62-41.

Brooke Skorjanec was the hero for Sharks with a GBL career-high 27 points.

The Bears were best served by 14 points from Big V Lady Supercats’ rookie Kendyl Collins.
