Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Round 14 Wrap

Vytis pulled off a stunning upset of Try Boys to put itself in the box seat for a finals berth in Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s competition on Tuesday night.

The Knights, who went into the contest with just five players, snuck home 66-60.

Steve Wiasak starred with 20 points for Vytis, while Romas Liebich chimed in with 16.

The Bears, who had nine players take the court, were best served by Paul Hutchison’s 15 points and 14 from Steve Hyland.

Sharks maintained third spot on the table with a 79-42 result against Tigers.

Dane Bow impressed with 25 points in an even team performance, in which four of his teammates also scored in double-figures.

In contrast, Dion Smith was the only Tigers’ offensive threat, scoring 14 points.

Pivot City didn’t have it all its own way against an inexperienced Christian College line-up, winning 73-64.

Jason Reardon and Trevor Hartwick paced the Pivotonians with 17 points apiece.

Young gun George Blagojevic (20 points) and Robert Kennedy (16) impressed for the Eagles.

YMCA showed no mercy to an undermanned Rovers’ roster, running out 93-63 winners.

Six players scored in double-figures for Y, with Ash Motiani (19 points) leading the way.

Darcy Watson was Rovers’ best with 12 points.

A Kim Martin-inspired Dolphins remain in the GBL Division 1 women finals hunt after a 61-53 win over Sharks.

Martin impressed with 18 points, while Ebony Rolph scored 13.

SEABL Lady Supercat young gun Maddy White kept Sharks competitive with 21 points.

The fine season of Bianca Cheever continued in Pivot City’s 62-56 victory over Lara.

Cheever finished with 22 points, while Jo Fazio had 11.

Caitlin Shadbolt (19 points) and Abby Schrader (17) kept the Giants in the contest.

Ladder leader Rovers hammered Try Boys 62-30, thanks to 27 points from Ellie Stevens.
