Geelong Basketball League Division 1 Round 16 Wrap

Basketball Geelong

A stunning performance from teenage sensation Ash Motiani kept alive the Geelong Basketball League Division 1 men’s finals hopes of YMCA at Geelong Arena on Tuesday night.

Motiani starred with 38 points in a 97-58 upset of fourth-placed Sharks, which has Y sitting just three points outside the top four with three rounds to play.

He had plenty of support too, with Riley Herbert (21 points) and Jordan Hill (15) also impressing.

Dane Bow warmed-up for the Big V Geelong Supercats’ preliminary final with a 20-point effort for Sharks.

Pivot City suffered just its second loss of the season, dropping a 52-40 decision to Vytis.

The Knights took advantage of the absence of key Pivotonians Jason Reardon and James Walker to all but seal third spot on the ladder.

SEABL Supercat Lachie Headlam dominated inside with 19 points, while Steve Wiasak finished with 15 for Vytis.

Veteran Adam Clapinski (12 points) was the only Pivot player in double figures.

A star-studded Try Boys’ outfit managed to hold off Dolphins 75-66 to ensure it will have the double-chance come September.

Dom Friend was the star with 18 points, while veteran Marty De Lange contributed 15.

Big man Ben McCawley kept Dolphins competitive, scoring 19 points.

Christian College continued the miserable season of Rovers, winning 85-40.

Keith Harrison and Marcus Larcombe shot 18 points apiece for the Eagles.

An even team performance has all but locked-down a top-two finish ahead of the finals for Pivot City, beating Try Boys 73-53.

Georgia Berry (16 points) and Jo Fazio (15) paced the scoring for Pivot.

Anisa Sijersic was again the Bears’ best, finishing with 18 points.

Rovers maintained its two-point lead at the top of the ladder with a narrow 55-51 victory over YMCA.

Amy Troy and Ellie Stevens both scored 15 points for Rovers.

Sisters’ Vicki King (21 points) and Kathy Mallon (18) did all they could to drag Y over the line.

Sharks consigned Lara to the wooden-spoon with a 55-23 win.

SEABL Lady Supercat Maddy White (21 points) made the most of the absence of Geelong teammates Abby Schrader and Caitlin Shadbolt.

The Giants were best served by 11 points from Rebekah Drake.
